If anyone is interested (or mad) Train Travel has now gone on sale for the above fixture.

Yes, you'll have to book half day or even skip School (please note I don't condone such behaviour) but never the less they've gone on sale.

Few of us already on the Ghost Train home.

£31 Return.

@BD13_Bantam Going to this one, might stay over with a friend or might come back late. Which train back are you on - Is it one to be found on the National Rail website (looked there) or you found another way of doing it?

I've just had look on the National Rail website and there are lots of trains from Bradford to London at £15.50. The return train will be the 23:30 from London to Leeds, also currently at £15.50. You'll need to book it as two singles (Bradford to London + London to Leeds).

The late train gets back into Leeds at 02:34.

If you book online don't use the Trainline, as they charge booking/postage fees. Use someone like First Transpennine (no booking and no postage fees).

We looked at this before xmas and decided against it due to late arrival of train back pretty much leaves you stranded in Leeds plus there is no tube station at Charlton and it's a lot of pissing about getting to London Bridge then changing.
If there are any delays getting back to kings cross you're screwed.
We are driving instead.

Edit... so when you add cost of taxis from Leeds and the return train to Charlton from Kings Cross its cheaper to drive or go on coach.

Charlton station is close to the ground and, according to the National Rail journey planner, anything up to the 22:17 from Charlton, should get you back to Kings Cross in time for the 23:30 to Leeds. That is: train Charlton to London Bridge and then Northern Line from London Bridge to Kings Cross. Of course, you are right, that if there are delays getting back to Kings Cross, then you could have problems.

As far as being stranded in Leeds is concerned, then its either sharing a taxi, booking onto the 04:40 National Express coach from Leeds to Bradford (currently £2.50) or waiting for the first train at 05:08.

As far as I'm concerned, there are no late trains back to Stafford, so its an overnight stay for me.

The last train back for me leaves at 23.30 and gets into Durham at 7.30 the next morning. That doesn't sound like fun

Most Tocs don't charge for online sales. The train line saying they are cheaper than the rest is a downright lie.

Yes but the train to Charlton is £9 return plus zone 1 tube cost of £4 ish. Plus bus/train to Leeds and a taxi back from Leeds at 3am
So assuming you get the £15 return to London from Leeds which is unlikely you'll still have all those extra costs which makes the coach or driving much cheaper.

Loads of seats for sale at £7.75 going to London from Leeds from 11:15 > 15:45 then it only goes up to £11 for Trains after that.
If you've got a contactless card you'll only ever pay no more than the standard day rate anyway on the Tube, think it's about £9?
The last Train back must have about 40 City Fans on it already.
Taxis back to Bradford won't cost a lot when you get a Taxi full.

I booked my Tickets 2 week ago, Charlton was the first fixture I looked for should be a cracking away trip.

Looking at this game , as my son wants to go just prior to his 18th birthday. Anyhow, what's the best option to get from Kings cross to charlton fc and return on the day. Book in advance, train, underground? ?

I must admit I've never done charlton before and I rite fancy a day out down London town.

Anyone fancy splitting taxi on way back from Leeds, message us. Live idle way.

From Kings Cross get the Northern line to London Bridge, then the overground from there to Charlton.
